Love All, Feed All: Sandwich Spot

A Q&A with the owner of Sandwich Spot, Jay Frisella

This week I had the absolute pleasure of chatting with Jay, the owner of Sandwich Spot right here in Leucadia! Originally from the bay area, he had a lot to say about his company, the move down to Southern California, and his love for his job. Seriously such a genuine man and that shows through his way of running the business and taking care of the community.

What would you say is the most important asset to making a local business succeed?:

Jay took a couple seconds to answer this question, but when he spoke, he answered with absolute ease. “Definitely getting community support, their involvement is key. Donations, consistency, and from our side: putting out quality ingredients, and just being a good person in the community.”

Favorite sandwich on the menu..? One you would like to promote?

Right when I walked in, the smell of food hit me like a ton of bricks, in the best way possible. So this question was on the tip of my tongue the whole interview. Jay smiled and looked at me with an obvious look on his face, “ Our Turkey, bacon, cheddar and avocado is for sure our best seller, (with Dutch crunch bread).” I definitely have to try next time I come into the store, off the clock!!

What makes YOUR sandwich spot different from others?

As I found out before, Jay is originally from the bay and he brought a little bit of Bay Area culture to Southern California! “Our bread is what really sets us apart from other sandwich shops. It’s called Dutch Crunch bread, it is actually from the Bay Area. I discovered it while I was working up there a while ago and brought it down here with me!”

Something you want people to know about the way you make your sandwiches: Is it special?

Jay informed me that he is “extremely happy to be back, back in the shop in this community, back to be in Leucadia again. We also modified the menu and logos for the Southern Californian people. The Bay Area community is very different from this one, and we’ve learned how to appeal to both with our sandwiches.”

BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER!!!
