Welcome Los Gauchos Wine to the Leucadia 101 Mainstreet Association! We're so excited to bring you an amazing new business that'll compliment the kitchen with its quality and affordability. Los Gauchos is a nod to the brave and freedom-loving cowboys of South America and their quest to pursue a more simple existence. Dreamt up by a group of friends coming together and embracing the spirit of exploration. Read below for a mini Q&A with Patrick Garcia!
- Are you from San Diego?
I was originally born + raised in Miami, Florida. I've always felt inspired by the energy of California and found my way to Encinitas in 2016.
- What is the story behind the name "Los Gauchos"?
Gauchos are cowboys from the South American Pampas (specifically Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay). Our wine is made in Argentina and so we wanted to use a name that pays homage to the land where our wine is harvested.

- When did your journey in wine begin?
I've been a casual wine enthusiast for a few years - but wine culture can be intimidating. Most wine labels are very traditional and can oftentimes appeal more to an older audience. We founded Los Gauchos with the hopes of merging my passion for wine with my mission to make it more approachable for all (whether you're just getting into wine or are an enthusiast yourself). My business partner and father-in-law also owns the winery where all of our wine is made.
- Can you explain what "low-intervention" means in terms of producing wine?
Low intervention simply means wine produced with minimal intervention from the winemaker. It usually contains no additives or processing aids. For example, only 20-25 ppm of Sulfur gets added to our wines during bottling (some conventional wines can contain up to 350!). All of our harvesting is done by hand in small batches, and our winemaker's farming practices all demonstrate respect for terroir, tradition and above all, the consumer.

- Do you have a favorite style?
It definitely depends on the season. Heading into summer, I've really been enjoying our Torrontes, which is a refreshing dry yet floral white wine native to Argentina. It pairs perfectly with some fish tacos!
- Where can we purchase a bottle of Los Gauchos?
Locally, you can find our wine at Haggo's Tacos, Al Fresko in Oceanside and The Wine Shop in Old Town San Diego. You can also grab some wine directly from our website - losgauchoswines.com. We'll be announcing a few more exciting local accounts in the coming weeks!
