New Member Spotlight: The Leucadian Bar

We're so excited to welcome The Leucadian Bar to the Leucadia Mainstreet Association! You may recognize these signs because it's a long beloved bar on Coast Highway (established 1954!) - that now has a fresh look and updated interior! But don't worry, it still oozes it's original local charm, shuffleboard and bar top. We chat with partner Mike Chōpp on taking on The Leucadian during a challenging time, and what's ahead for the future!

What attracted you to customer service in the food/bar industry?
It has always been very exciting and fast paced. I’ve gotten to meet some really cool people.
What does hospitality mean to you?
Hospitality IS your neighborhood bartender, the one that you know is working and are excited to go see them.
Hospitality is showing someone who may be lonely, that they have a friend in us.
Hospitality is creating a place you can come and comfortably hang out with your friends or family and have a good time.
Hospitality is our staff knowing that they not only represent the bar, but they represent a web of people that keeps places like ours running, from the partners to the alcohol distributors, to the cleaning crew.
What obstacles have you encountered during renovations, alongside a pandemic?
We were very involved in the renovations, we were there nearly every day for 3 months restoring the shuffle board, refinishing the bar top etc. A lot of our own man power went into these renovations, which is probably why my business partner and I both threw our backs out in the process. Regarding the pandemic, the main issue we have faced is the distribution and supply chain issues. This delayed a lot of things, we announced our opening crossing our fingers that everything we needed to open in time would arrive.
What are you looking forward to with The Leucadian?
Keeping the legacy alive! And hopefully down the road we can have live music back in the building.
(We are also working on a more permanent food concept, stay tuned!)
Pool or shuffleboard?
I have to say shuffleboard, I am bias as it took me 55hours to properly restore the one we have now. I just want people to enjoy it, and know that the hard work paid off.
