MRKT SPACE is the brainchild of business partners Alex (the Italian) and Matt (the Aussie). As they became friends and bonded over their shared love of food and culture they realized the food/bev market was missing something. It was missing a central place where folks could eat well, enjoy a cocktail and browse some quality products for their home and pantry. Together they created MRKT SPACE - a local spot where the community can gather and relax, enjoy delicious food and drinks and find unique specialty products for their own kitchens.
After much success with the first location at Leighton Beach in Perth, Australia they are bringing the MRKT SPACE experience across the globe to San Diego. The new outposts in Leucadia (just down the street from Beacons Beach) and La Jolla Shores (coming soon!) bring Aussie coffee culture and an authentic Italian food and beverage experience to SoCal.
Matt Power is co-founder and CEO of MRKT SPACE and is a Leucadia resident. Matt has experience in a wide range of companies and industries, from start-ups to publicly traded companies. Matt has been a certified public accountant. Matt was the co-founder and owner of La Cantina Doors, an Oceanside, CA door systems manufacturer.
Alex Brinis is co-founder of MRKT SPACE. Alex has extensive experience in owning and managing hotels and restaurants internationally. Alex is the CEO of MRKT SPACE Australia.
MRKT SPACE is an elevated social experience. It’s a place for friends, neighbors and new faces to gather and engage around delicious food and great drinks.
We are a café, bar and market, but above all else we have designed the space to be whatever the customer wants it to be. Maybe you come in for a coffee and a fresh baked croissant and leave with a bouquet of flowers, a bottle of wine, and all the ingredients for a nice pasta dinner at home. We are reinventing the concept of “convenience” and elevating it to something totally unique. Everything you need is here.
Our menu is globally local, just like us. We’ve got locally roasted coffee, served Aussie style and a delicious Italian-inspired all-day menu. We believe that great food doesn’t need to be complicated and our menu showcases the best ingredients - served simply. Our offerings include light and fresh breakfasts and salads, Mediterranean-style sandwiches, gourmet flatbreads, and grazing boards made from the best local and internationally sourced cheeses and cured meats.
Community is hugely important to the fabric of MRKT SPACE and our shelves are full of top-quality products from both local and international producers. We value our close partnerships within the community and want to use our space to illuminate not only our favorite products, but also the amazing people who make them. Our “experience” table in the middle of the MRKT serves as a communal space where folks can meet the makers and discover something new.
